STEVEN GERRARD is set to be announced as Rangers manager this afternoon - and is expected to take members of his current Liverpool Under-18s backroom staff with him to Ibrox.
The former England captain held meetings with Rangers chairman Dave King in London yesterday after working as a pundit for BT Sport the previous night. Details of a three-year deal were agreed and, barring the unforeseen, the Liverpool legend will be named as boss later today.
Gerrard, 37, who has been Liverpool’s U18 boss for the last year, is expected to name the former Scotland captain Gary McAllister as part of his coaching staff. He is also set to take his current U18s assistant, Tom Culshaw, with him to Glasgow, as well as lead fitness coach Jordan Milsom.
Graeme Murty had been interim Rangers manager since Pedro Caixinha was sacked last October, but was sacked following the 5-0 defeat by Celtic on Sunday. Murty has been offered the chance to return to the Academy as Under-20 coach, but is yet to decide on this.
Rangers said Jimmy Nicholl and Jonatan Johansson would take charge of the team for the final three games of this season.
