FORMER Sheffield United Academy Manager Travis Binnion has been appointed as Under-14s to 16s lead coach at Manchester United.

Binnion joined the Blades in January 2009 as Youth Development Coach and rose through the ranks to eventually become Academy boss in 2016.

During his time with the South Yorkshire club he worked under Nick Cox, who is now Academy Manager a Manchester United - and helped in the development of players such as Harry Maguire, David Brooks, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Aaron Ramsdale. Maguire, of course, is now one of the stars of the Manchester United first team.

Binnion left Sheffield United in the summer, after Jack Lester was promoted to Academy Manager. In an interview with TGG in August, he said his aim going forward was "to implement everything I’ve learned and put that into action in a different situation and also learn.

“I’ve always worked at one club in one setting so am excited about doing that, because I’m passionate about developing players and people.”

His appointment follows an extensive search by the Old Trafford club and he replaces Neil Ryan, who was promoted to U18s coach by United in July 2018. His former role was filled on an interim basis until now. The club is set to announce a new Youth Development Phase Lead in the coming days.

Manchester United Academy roles:

  • Academy Manager: Nick Cox
  • U23s: Neil Wood; assistant Quinton Fortune
  • U18s: Neil Ryan
  • U14s to 16s: Travis Binnion
