EXCLUSIVE: Steinsson and Purdy exit Everton as bloodletting continues

EVERTON'S Head of Recruitment and Development, Gretar Steinsson, and Manager of Scouting and Operations, Dan Purdy, have both left the club as bloodletting continues behind the scenes.
On Monday, Director of Football Marcel Brands exited Everton after three-and-a-half years following a power struggle with manager Rafa Benitez.
Now the next two most senior figures in recruitment have exited too. Icelander Steinsson, a former Premier League footballer with Bolton, was brought to the club by Brands in December 2018. In October 2019 he was promoted to Head of Recruitment and Development. Prior to his time at the club he was Technical Director at Fleetwood Town.
Purdy had been with the Toffees for more than seven-and-a-half years. He started as a Performance Analyst Intern and rose to become a Technical Scout and then Technical Scouting Co-ordinator for the first team. In July 2019 he was promoted to Manager of Scouting and Operations by Brands.
Benitez, who was appointed manager in the summer, has pushed for greater control of recruitment and has received the backing of majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri. The restructuring has extended to other departments as well, with Director of Medical Danny Donachie leaving Goodison last month after Benitez carried out a review of the club’s injury record.
