ALAN DAWSON MBE has stepped down from his position as Director of Football Operations at Manchester United after five years.
Dawson has one of the most interesting backgrounds in football, having previously spent 17 years with the Royal Airforce, as a Squadron Commander and trainer.
The Oxford University graduate joined United in April 2012 as Commercial Operations Director and became Director of Football Operations in September 2017. This role originally involved management of first-team staff and operations and line-management of senior analysis, medical and performance staff.
However, in the last couple of seasons Dawson had less involvement in direct football decisions and Covid compliance became a major part of his responsibilities.
He is currently working on a project with Richard Arnold, the Group Managing Director at Manchester United, and is expected to leave the club once that is completed.
John Murtough, who was promoted to Football Director in March 2021, has “overall leadership and responsibility for operations and strategy across all football functions” at United.
Andy O’Boyle joined from the Premier League in May 2022 to become Deputy Football Director.
