NEIL CUTLER has been appointed Head of Goalkeeping at Wolves after Tony Roberts left to join AC Milan.

Cutler, 46, worked at Aston Villa from 2018 to last October, when Unai Emery joined the club. The former Stoke and Rotherham keeper has also coached at Walsall and West Brom in the Midlands.

Roberts moved to Molineux in the summer of 2021 as part of Bruno Lage’s backroom team and remained at the club as Julen Lopetegui and his staff arrived last season.

However, he has now joined AC Milan and has joined the Rossoneri on their pre-season tour of the United States.

Sporting Director Matt Hobbs said: “Tony can walk away proud of what he’s leaving behind. It’s football, people leave, which provides opportunities for others. “We’re excited to see what the next step is for us, there’s good people in the building and interesting candidates on the outside, who have expressed an interest, so we’ll make sure we make the right decision.”

Welcoming Cutler, Hobbs added: “Neil’s somebody we know well. What was interesting was the amount of people I had recommending him, even other candidates for the role praised him, so for them to be so positive shows you the level of coach we’ve managed to bring in.

“He’s a big personality, with massive attention to detail – a real training ground coach who drives standards and brings positive energy to the place. We couldn’t replace Tony like for like, but there are certain qualities we looked for which Neil has.

“Neil’s developed senior goalkeepers at all the clubs he’s been at, but also brought young ones through, and with the investment we’ve put into the goalkeeping department, that was important to us.”
