Crewe: Everall suspension unrelated to club role

CREWE ALEXANDRA say the suspension of Foundation Phase coach Carl Everall is “totally unconnected” to his role at the club.
Everall has been suspended by Crewe and from all football-related activity by the Football Association while allegations about a ‘safeguarding matter’ are investigated.
The FA say the situation has become “a police matter”, although Cheshire Police are yet to comment. Everall started working full-time with Crewe as their Head of Foundation 14 months ago but has coached in the club’s Academy since March 2013.
“Crewe Alexandra Football Club can confirm that youth coach Carl Everall has been suspended,” the club said in a statement released this afternoon.
“The reason for this suspension relates to a safeguarding issue which is totally unconnected with his role at Crewe Alexandra.
“The club also reaffirm that, as soon as it was made aware of the issue, it was dealt with immediately and the relevant & appropriate procedures were followed. It is not appropriate for the club to comment further.”
Crewe have not commented further on the suspension of Director of Football and former manager Dario Gradi, who was suspended by the FA in December 2016.
The club has been at the centre of an abuse scandal that has rocked English football. Former youth coach Barry Bennell was sentenced to 30 years in prison in February for abusing junior players.
