FORMER Bristol City coach Rhys Carr has been appointed to the new role of Individual Development Coach by Premier League newcomers Sheffield United.

Welshman Carr left the Championship side by mutual consent in the summer after almost six years’ service. He was Head of Fitness and Conditioning for most of that time at Ashton Gate, before becoming their Development Coach at the start of last season.

He is qualified as both a coach and performance practitioner, holding the Uefa A Licence, Uefa Elite Youth A Licence and a Masters in Coaching Science. As TGG has previously reported, the role of development coach is becoming more and more prevalent in English football.

Southampton (David Hughes), Blackburn Rovers (Damien Johnson) and Fulham (Liam Rosenior) have all recruited for the role in recent months, while Huddersfield are recruiting for the position.
