Brentford Head of Medical Neil Greig has left the club after 14 years to become the new Head of Performance Support for Chelsea Women.
Greig was one of the Brentford’s longest-serving members of staff and joined the Bees in June 2010. He leaves having played a part in promotions from both League One and the Championship, followed by three successful seasons in the Premier League.
As well as this, he has raised more than £100,000 for various charities by running marathons, including vital funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young, in memory of former Brentford Technical Director Robert Rowan.
“My 14 years with Brentford have been the most rewarding and enjoyable of my career,” said Greig. “When I walked through the door it was evident that there was a huge project ahead, however there was a clear vision and strategy in place to achieve that and it’s been an incredible journey.
“I’d like to place on record my thanks to the outstanding group of medical and performance staff that I’ve worked alongside during my time at the club along with many others, of whom there are too many to mention them all.
“I’d also like to thank (Director of Football) Phil Giles and (Head Coach) Thomas Frank for all the support they’ve shown me, particularly in the past few weeks as I reached this tough decision.
“I’m excited as to what the next chapter of my career will hold but will always look out for Brentford’s results and wish the club ongoing success.”
Giles added: “On behalf of everyone at Brentford I’d like to thank Neil for his outstanding contribution to the club. He has played a significant part in getting us to the Premier League and can be proud of his achievements.
“For example, Neil played a leading role in helping us to navigate through the Covid pandemic, ensuring that our player availability was very high, which in turn contributed to promotion in May 2021.
“He has been a trusted leader of the medical department who has given up many weekends and evenings to carry out medicals for new signings and help support the team.
“The role to which he is moving at Chelsea Women is a perfect fit for the next stage of Neil’s career, and we wish him well.”
