FORMER Arsenal data scientist Arjav Trivedi has joined Aston Villa’s new Football Research department.

Trivedi has been appointed as a data scientist at Villa Park and will report into Head of Research Frederick Leth, who joined the club in February.

He will be responsible for using “cutting-edge techniques to derive insights from data” and helping practitioners across a range of departments to make "evidence-based decisions.”

Villa advertised the role in June and said the successful candidate would “design, build and apply statistical and machine-learning models that evolve our understanding of players, the game and the industry.”

Trivedi joins from Fifa, where he had been a Football Data Engineer for four months. Prior to that he worked for Arsenal for three years as a Data Scientist and Engineer.

In December 2020 Trivedi presented at TGG’s Big Data Conference alongside Professor Geir Jordet. The duo outlined the groundbreaking work they had done on scanning, allying data science and sport science to gain insights.
