NICK ALLAMBY has left Sunderland to become Head of Athletic Development at Middlesbrough.

He replaces John Thrower, who left Boro in January after nine years to become Strength and Conditioning Coach at Tottenham.

Allamby was previously Head of Sport Science at the North East club, where he worked under Steve McClaren, Gareth Southgate and Gordon Strachan. He went on to work for Bradford, Bolton and Sunderland.

Phil Parkinson, who was his manager at the latter three clubs, said: "Nick is someone I rate very, very highly in his role. Nick is very good at monitoring the details of the training and getting the right intensity levels.”

Thrower announced his exit from Boro on Instagram in January, writing: "I have met some incredible people over the years and want to wish them all and the club only the very best for the future."
