Academy boss Brazil leaves Nottingham Forest after a decade

GARY BRAZIL, Nottingham Forest’s Director of Football Development, is leaving the club after a decade after his contract was not renewed.
Brazil joined as Academy Manager in February 2013 and was promoted to the beefed-up role of Director of Football Development in October 2020, with responsibility for the Academy, loans, domestic recruitment and the club’s “football philosophy.”
On his watch the Academy was promoted to Category One status in May 2021, although this was only extended by a year the following summer because of issues identified in the audit. The club are expected to be awarded the full three-year licence from next season, however, with the news due to be announced shortly.
Several players have progressed from Academy to first team during Brazil's tenure, including Brennan Johnson, Joe Worrall and Ryan Yates. The Under-18s reached the FA Youth Cup final last season, losing to Manchester United, and the U23s won the Professional Development League North in 2019.
The club were 33rd in the latest edition of our Academy Productivity Rankings, for 2021/22.
Brazil played more than 500 senior games and was Club Support Manager for the Premier League and Academy Technical Director for Fulham before joining Forest.
The club have undergone significant change behind the scenes in recent months, with Ross Wilson joining from Rangers as Chief Football Officer and former Newcastle United Managing Director Lee Charnley leaving his role as a consultant at the end of last season.
